* Hematology and coagulation: hematology is study of blood. Medical technologists in hematology detect number and type of white blood cells with help of microscope. With help of cell counter, they count cells. Medical technologists can also tell ratio of RBC to plasma, which is known as hematocrit. CBC i.e. complete blood count is also done using this cell counter.

Owing to the numerous specialized fields in healthcare, many types of medical technologists are required by clinics or hospitals.

Coagulation is study of patient's hemostasis; it is stopping of blood flow from injured blood vessel. Medical technologists measures time required blood to clot to determine system is working properly or not. Medical technologists can detect factor that is not working properly.
