It is his responsibility to take tests of specimens like urine, stool, sputum, blood, spinal fluid, and gastric juices. These tests are performed and the results are sent to the concerned specialist. These are mainly diagnostic tests that are used for the diagnosis of various diseases. These results are more required for the further analysis of the test. Modern applications of biochemistry in health care industry need skilled medical technologists.

Specializations highlight the field of medical technologists and biochemistry. Some technologist prepares solutions used in chemical analysis. The work is not limited up to the tests. These technologists are even responsible for calibration and maintenance of the manual and computer-controlled analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis. The job includes collection of blood samples if required for the further studies.
