Medical technologist is the special branch of medical and health professional. Primary responsibility of the medical technologist is to test human body fluids like blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, sputum, peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid. Testing of these fluids is carried out in the laboratories at the hospitals. Therefore, there are many risks for medical technologist in the laboratory.

Medical technologist has to test all body fluid those are infected with viruses and therefore there are many chances that technologist may catch by these infections. Some times virus in the fluids is contagious therefore while testing the samples, they may attack the technologist's body and technologist may be infected. This is one of the risks for medical technologists.

Besides this, the technologists who are radiologist can experience the risk of radiation induced skin cancer due to over exposure to the radiation. Along with radiologist, medical technologists who have more exposure to the X-rays also experience such problems. Some times more exposure to the radiations decreases the fertility in the technologists. All these are severe risks for medical technologists.

Some medical technologists work in the blood banks. Blood bank also contributes in certain risks for medical technologist. Many viruses can affect body of medical technologist while receiving or transferring blood. Besides this, technologists are more at risk as they usually are exposed to infected patients.

All these are the major risks for medical technologists but beside these risks, technologists have to endure many factors that are equally hazardous to them. In many situation technologist has to lift serious patients and therefore technologists have to suffer physically. While exposing patients to the radiation, technologists also exposed to it. This unnecessary and over exposure to radiation shows advert effects to the technologists.

All these are harmful risks for medical technologists that may change their life and therefore they need to keep themselves protected from maximum infections. While testing the body fluid samples they can use masks to avoid infections. Before testing and after testing of the body fluid, regular hand wash also helps to keep technologist away from the infection. Following such steps may protect from risks for medical technologists.
