ECG medical technologist



The ECG medical technologist is a person providing technical services for diagnosing and treating the disease of the heart. A number of special equipments are operated by the ECG medical technologist to provide the necessary information about the patient that can be used by the medical practitioners and the cardiologists for the treatment and the care of the patient.

Duties and Tasks of the ECG Medical Technologist: the ECG medical technologist has to perform many tasks. Some of them are listed below:

* Electrocardiography- it is also known as ECG. It is an instrument that records the electrical activities of the heart. From here the heart rate is measured and the interpretation of the pattern and the rhythm of the heart rate can be done.

* Exercise ECG Stress Testing- he has to assess the cardiac responses of the patient for exercising with the use of a stationary bicycle or a treadmill and an ECG recording.

* Ambulatory Monitoring- he has a fit a portable ECG monitor for recording the ECG over a period of 24 hours and thus, replay and analyze the tape on a system based on computers.

* Cardiac Catheterization- he has to monitor and record the information regarding the blood pressure and the ECG.

* Pacemaker Implant Testing- he needs to test and reprogramme the implanted cardiac pacemakers if found to be necessary with the help of a computerized equipment.

* Echocardiography- operate the ultrasound equipment that will do the scanning of the structures of the heart, measuring the parameters like the flow of the blood, size of the chamber of the heart and abnormalities of the valves.

* Electrophysiology Studies- they use computerized systems for recording the information of the ECG from the heart so as to diagnose as well as treat the abnormal rhythms of the heart.

* Cardiac research- he has to study the effects of the cardiovascular drugs and the diseases by using any of the above listed techniques.

ECG medical technologists should be of a very careful nature and possess an analytical approach towards his work. He should be supportive, sympathetic and have an ability to learn independently as well as work as a part or a member of the team.
