Medical technologist works in five different areas of laboratory in blood bank, chemical analysis of body fluids, hematology, immunology and microbiology. There are many different types analysis is done in medical laboratories; urine analysis is one of the very important analysis.

Urine analysis is used for detection of many disorders. Medical technologists and urine analysis are related activities since a test of urine talks about the health of a patient. Urine analysis includes checking the color and degree of cloudiness of the urine. They also detect and measure a variety of cells and different substances in the urine. For example proteins, sugars, blood cells. Along with blood sugar estimation, urine sugar estimation is very important in case of diabetes. Medical technologists first analyze color and appearance of urine, then check acidity and pH of the urine this pH level is very important in some diagnosis and treatments. Then the medical technologists with help of urinometer test specific gravity of urine. Turbidity of urine is also checked.

After these analysis, medical technologists analyses different composition of urine as per physician's instruction. Urine protein level, urine sugar level, presence of ketone bodies, bile pigmentation is analyzed. All these things and their quantity greatly affect health so their precise measurement is very important. Sometime medical technician refrigerate urine for uric acid analysis, this primarily done to prevent that offensive odor.

Medical technologists also perform dome microanalysis of urine for presence of red blood cells and red cells casts and white cells and white cells casts. Presence of Red blood cells in excessive amount indicates disease condition, internal bleeding in urinary tract. White blood cell, casts and crystals detected by microscopy are very helpful in detection and diagnosis of many disease.

To work as medical technologist bachelor's degree with major in medical technology or life science is required. Medical technologists can become chief medical technologists or laboratory mangers in hospitals. They can work in independent laboratory, after few years of experience they can work as faculty. Urine analysis is very important in detection of many dieses, so medical technologist and urine analysis are related to each other owing to the utmost care that must be taken while carrying out all activities.
