Role Of Medical Technologists In Healthcare Process

There are many different professionals are involved in the field of health care, but role of medical technologist is not only very important but it is also very essential. Medical technologist performs different diagnostic analytical test on various body fluids like blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluids and some other fluids also other tissue samples and other specimens.

The role of a medical technologist in health care process is to give accurate result after performing full range of laboratory tests from simple blood sugar detection to some complex test to detect diseases like cancer. Medical technologists look for bacteria, parasites and presence of other microorganisms. They analyze chemical contents of fluids. If patient is under some treatment then medical technologists test for drug level in blood to shoe how the patient is responding to treatment given.

Medical technologist performs many complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological tests. Also examines blood, tissue and other body substances microscopically. Even cultures of body fluids and tissue samples are prepared to determine presence of bacteria, fungi and bacteria. After all these tests and after analyzing all results, detailed reports are prepared. This report is then forwarded to consulting physician. Diagnosis of patient's health, dieses and effect of treatment greatly depends upon these reports by medical technologists.

Just like other professions, even medical technologist can have specialization in some specific areas. If a medical technologist is specialized in blood bank technology then they are trained in all techniques and tests done blood bank. Blood bank medical technologist interviews blood donor to determine whether they are eligible for blood donation or not, then they collect blood samples and prepare those sample for storage. All these testing, storage and handling of samples and reports are done very accurately as even small mistake can be fatal.

For accuracy medical technologist controls experimental conditions, they calibrate laboratory instruments, they performs delta checks, which is changes within normal series of results. Accurate results are very important for correct digonosis of disease and are important in monitoring treatment. Even small error or mistake can lead to complication that can be fatal. Therefore, the role of a medical technologist is critical and needs to be handled with great precaution and care.
