Medical technologist is one part of medical and health profession. They carry tests on body fluids to diagnose the diseases in laboratories at hospitals. Some laboratories are particularly developed for blood banks. These laboratories play important role in blood testing and diseases diagnosis. For these tests technologist has to follow some standards of the blood centers and transfusion services. This investigation will lead to proper treatments. Besides this medical technologist need to perform blood collection and processing that includes donors selection, blood collection, sorting and typing blood, and has to perform viral marker testing in insurance with the patients security. To carry out tests some times medical technologists have to work in other than normal shifts and some times on weekends too.

Medical technologists in the blood banks some times may work in various fields like community blood centers, university allied blood banks, private hospital blood banks, independent laboratories, and occasionally they may become part of university faculty. If the medical technologist is specialist then they may take advantage to become supervisor or administrator or can move into teaching or research fields.

To become medical technologist in the blood bank the applicant need to be certified in the medical technology by the Board and Registry that have to baccalaureate degree from regional accredited college or university.
